One Week Course

Beginner level

📍Hammersmith Studio

  • Monday-Friday 10.30-1pm

Learn how to throw on the pottery wheel and how to hand build with clay: pinching, coiling, slab building and pressing clay into plaster moulds with decorating slips and a glazing session to follow once all your work has bisqued.

Projects are self directed with expert guidance from our teachers and technicians.

We now also offer a new one week course only for teenagers!

Throwing, Hand building & Decorating techniques: 4 or 8 weeks courses

Mixed ability

📍Hammersmith Studio

Mondays

  • Starts June 3rd 10.30-1pm/ 18:30-21:00 hrs

An introduction to a broad range of pottery techniques and surface decorating techniques suitable for beginners/L2. This course teaches throwing and hand building with decorating techniques; slip and engobe, inlay application alongside monotype transfer methods. We will also cover decorative and practical approaches to using glaze on bisqueware.

During this course you will learn how to centre the clay on a pottery wheel and make a cup/bowl shape. Learn hand building techniques: pinching, coiling, slab building and pressing clay into plaster moulds.
Projects are self directed and you will learn how to apply a glaze to your fired work. Inclusive of all materials and firing costs.

Level 2 Throwing: 4 or 8 weeks course

You must have completed a level 1 course to progress to L2: Intermediate and be able to centre clay, throw cylinders and bowls.

Wednesdays or Saturdays

  • Saturdays June 1st and 29th 14:00-17:00 hrs

  • Wednesday June 5th 18:00-21:00 hrs

Make larger work throwing component parts, joining and assembling larger pots. Construct a water jug from three thrown pieces / elements.

Learn how to design and plan forms, weighing, measuring and preparing clay.

Throwing: 4 or 8 weeks course

Mixed ability

📍Hammersmith and Barnes Studio

Tuesdays:

  • June 4th and 25th 10:30-13:00 hrs or 18:00-20:30 hrs (4 or 8 weeks)

Saturdays:

  • June 29th 14:00-16:30 hrs (4 weeks) in Barnes

Sunday Sanctuary:

  • June 23rd 14:00-16:30 hrs (4 weeks) in Hammersmith

Decorating Techniques: 6 weeks course
