Meet the artists ahead of your visit

Aby Lawrence

Abi Lawrence started working with ceramics as a teen and it has been a lifelong passion since then. Having studied Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art from 2013-2016 her passion for ceramics has grown from strength to strength. Focused on shapes thrown on the wheel, each piece is handmade, in small batches. Abi takes inspiration from the world around her, finding inspiration in texture and colours, in both nature and the urban landscape that she lives within.

Abi is currently based in a studio in Hammersmith, her current focus is hand-thrown and simply decorated pieces, to showcase the simple beauty of the clay. Every piece is unique and the results vary widely from piece to piece, meaning every item is a one-of-a-kind work of art.

Zoe Lloyd

Zoe Lloyd holds a Masters in Ceramics from the Royal College of Art and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the Institute of Education. Her practice reflects in-betweenness, where un-controllable things happen. She makes intuitively and spontaneously with clay. This allows her to capture and express feelings of conflict and vulnerability, such as wading through the harsh reality of being both solitary and attempting to be courageous in the studio

Geffen Black

Geffen creates organic, hand-built pottery that is beautifully stylish and tactile. She loves manipulating the surface of pots as well as playing with the mixing of glazing and decorative elements to produce perfectly imperfect centrepieces.

Great things take time to evolve and grow to fruition; but the result is a piece to keep forever. When you hold one of Geffen’s unique ceramics, you will be intrigued by the stories and influences that inspire her work. Her approach to working in clay has been steered by a long and successful career in Interior Design. A fascination with contrasting styles of 3D products, beautifully decorated objects, and fabrics from around the world are also a huge influence on Geffen’s creative ideas.

Jenny Fry

Jenny’s journey into ceramics commenced with a taster class in 2022, and she have not veered off that path since. Aiming to establish a solid grounding in the fundamentals of throwing, she diligently pursued courses at both City Lit University and Ceramics Classes London. Equipped with a comprehensive understanding, she now holds a membership at the Hammersmith Studio, wholeheartedly engrossed in expanding her repertoire by delving into uncharted techniques and styles. With an unwavering passion for vibrant hues, her creative endeavours primarily revolve around wheel thrown pieces that seamlessly combine functionality and aesthetics.

Louise Hapton

Louise is a young French writer and contemporary artist based in London. She is currently studying Fine Art (BA) at the University of Westminster and recently obtained representation from Agence BeYou Paris.

Very early, the eighteen-year-old artist published both her literary and visual artwork in magazines and books. Louise is a black (Caribbean), queer, and neurodivergent artist exploring her own issues with a brush and clay.

On the literary side, Louise has always had a big appetite for writing fiction. She wrote her first novel "Arnold" while recovering from a dreadful attempt to take her life away. Its publication one year later when she turned fourteen gave her enough hope and strength to continue her internal fight. In 2022, Louise Hapton's second novel was published ("La Librairie du coin de la rue") by the feminist publishing house "Éditions Chèvre-Feuille Étoilée".

Nicole Chan

Nicole is a dedicated amateur ceramicist born in Hong Kong. She is influenced by Japanese aesthetics, crafting functional hand-thrown ceramics. Nicole is interested in emphasising simplicity with sophistication, creating pieces that seamlessly blend beauty and utility.

Sara Zarghami

Sara is an ambitious young woman from Iran. She is a self trained potter and project coordinator.

As She majored in psychology, she found the throwing wheel as a therapy that can help individuals to transfer their negative feelings, stress or angers to their hands and make beautiful pottery. She believes that throwing helps individuals to be mindful and forget the stress of daily life.

As an Iranian, Sara is inspired by the anicient history of her country. She makes functional art pieces that are all 1 of 1 and unique.
